History of Texas Beta Omicron

     Beta Omicron was chartered Oct. 19, 1964 in Irving Texas with 22 charter members who were initiated by Vera Neel McCauley, past Grand President, past Texas State President, past District II president and Lavonne Langston, immediate past State President, and assisted in the ceremony by members of Irving’s Beta Beta chapter.   

     The charter members were: Elsie Acord, Alvis Adkins, Thelma Castleberry, Ann Clifton, Lavada Griggs, Lois Hamilton, Hazel Hunt, Barbara Klier, Sue Lumbley, Ruth Martin, Murble Pickens, Pat Rhodd, Alice Stephenson, Marjorie Strauss, Margaret Trigg, Martha Ruth Trigg, Tahwannah Turner, Patricia Walker, Virginia Ward, Orie Williamson, Barbara Wilson, and Margaret Young.

     The first president was Lois Hamilton.

     Beta Omicron sisters have been present at every state convention since its chartering and at many international conventions and regional conferences.

      Beta Omicron has had four sisters serve as District II presidents: Gail Witt, 1980-1982, Carol Schober 1988-1990, Carol Johnson 2008-2010, and Linda Hoffmann, 2014-2016. Beta Omicron has one sister serve on the state Executive Board, Carol Johnson, 2014-2016 Corresponding Secretary/VPM 2016-18, 2020-2024

 

     Beta Omicron sisters have received the District II scholarship 5 times since 1967: Mary Benovsky, 1967; Mary Pat Clements, 1988;  Mary Kay Dixon, 2002; Karen Lowman, 2009; Jennifer Cimaglia, 2013.

 

    Karen Lowman was awarded a $5000 Fine Arts scholarship from International Chapter in 2010.
